Forces of Nature: WordPress Bloggers I Admire

Incredible. This is the word that comes to mind when I think about the voices and personalities that are here on WordPress.

In only less than a month, I’ve been deeply moved and struck by the vulnerability and joy that I feel coming through the posts I read. It’s humbling, and I’m so thankful to have discovered a community that gives as much, if not more, as they get.

It reminds me of a word from The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows, by John Koenig:

sonder

n. the realization that each random passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as your own—populated with their own ambitions, friends, routines, worries and inherited craziness—an epic story that continues invisibly around you like an anthill sprawling deep underground, with elaborate passageways to thousands of other lives that you’ll never know existed, in which you might appear only once, as an extra sipping coffee in the background, as a blur of traffic passing on the highway, as a lighted window at dusk.

The individuals I mention below write so evocatively and effectively that they make me feel like I know them in real life. Their thoughts and lives are a force of nature.

A Little Bird Tweets – Every one of her flash fiction pieces that I’ve read so far drops me in a vivid world so well-written and eloquent that I end up just wanting to live there. She writes how I dream. She writes how I eventually want to write. I’m trying to get there, and she’s on a whole other level.

Opalflame – Real, open, with a straightforward way of expression. Always enjoyable to read. And BEST OF ALL,  a fellow music geek – could’ve talked on forever and ever about our experiences with music so far, I feel. I especially enjoyed “Dancing – Ain’t no Thang!!” with its involving dialogue and incorporation of music. Always. Enjoyable. To. Read.

Impossiblebebong – Whenever I go to her blog, I always feel like I’m pushing open a veil, and the room I enter is soundproofed. Nothing gets in, nothing gets out. The stillness she weaves with her melancholy stories draws me in, and it is always an arresting experience.

J. Cross – One line that really got to me from her “If we were having coffee…” post was “If we were having margaritas, I’d tell you…”, and then concludes with “But. But, we’re having coffee.” It made me think, what if every interaction we had with people was slightly flavored with ‘margarita’? Margarita, representing sincerity and a willingness to show our true selves? The world would be a more forthright (and more entertaining) place, just like her blog.

Fico – I love his tagline: “Because the mind is a terrible thing to waste… on life.” It’s great. But this guy – leaves the most meaningful and empathetic comments. He is so accessible in the way he writes on his blog and interacts with folks that you know it’s genuine. Talking with him is grounding, and makes you truly appreciate that there are people like him out there in the real world.
